Dual Degrees with MSW

Master of divinity concentrations have expanded to include biblical studies, black church studies, military chaplaincy, pastoral care and sexual and gender justice. Declaring a concentration is not required, but doing so indicates focused preparation for a future vocation or for advanced study.

MSW-MATM Dual Degree

  • 45 credit hours from the TCU Social Work  
    • 15 credit hours from social work transferable to satisfy the MATM requirement for Specialization and Global/Cultural Context
    • 3 credit hours from social work electives transferable; examples include social work courses in Diversity and Social Justice, Administration & Management, Professional Foundations or Social Welfare Policy
  • 33 credit hours from Brite Divinity School 
    • 15 credit hours from Brite transferable to satisfy six hours of field work and nine hours of electives
  • A student’s field placement must be approved by administrators from both programs.

MSW-MTS Dual Degree 

  • 49 credit hours from TCU Social Work  
    • 15 credit hours transferable from Social Work to satisfy MTS elective hours at Brite Divinity School
  • 34 credit hours from Brite Divinity School 
    • Nine credit hours from Brite transferable to satisfy elective hours in TCU Social Work

MSW-MDiv Dual Degree

  • 45 credit hours from TCU Social Work
    • 15 credit hours from Social Work transferable to satisfy requirements in Congregational Leadership, the Ministry of Care, Contextualization and Ethics, and three hours of electives at Brite
  • 66 hours from Brite Divinity School
    • 15 credit hours from Brite transferable to satisfy six hours of field work and nine hours of electives in social work.

Degree & Admission Requirements

  • Admitted to the Department of Social Work’s MSW program and Brite Divinity School’s Master of Arts in Theology and Ministry, Master of Theological Studies or Master of Divinity program.  
  • If a student elects to complete only one degree after having been admitted to both programs, previously allowed course substitutions will be honored, and must then meet all remaining requirements at the degree-granting institution.
  • Must apply for dual degree status prior to completing 21 hours in either program. Advanced standing MSW students will need to declare upon admission into the program.
