Welcome to the Harris College of Nursing and Health Sciences. The Harris College is vibrant and thriving with new programs, innovative curricula, and students and faculty who are making a difference for others. The Harris College houses Nursing, Social Work, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Kinesiology, and Nurse Anesthesia, and is home to over 800 undergraduate students, 250 graduate students, 63 full time faculty, 19 staff, and numerous part time field and clinical faculty.
The Harris College supports the mission, vision, and values of TCU. Our graduates are prepared to think and practice as ethical leaders in nursing, health care, and educational settings. Students have learning experiences in campus laboratories, hospitals, clinics, schools, fitness facilities, and community service agencies. The Dallas-Fort Worth area offers a rich array of clinical practice sites. The on campus Miller Speech and Hearing Clinic provides services for over 200 families per year and serves as a professional practice site for students majoring in speech pathology and habilitation of the deaf. Our graduates are competent, compassionate, and in demand in the workforce.
Faculty and students actively engage in research for the purpose of improving health and well being. Undergraduate and graduate students have opportunities to work with faculty as they conduct studies in such areas as carbohydrate metabolism, exercise physiology, heart disease, aging, stuttering, caregiving, grand parenting, and forgiveness. Our new Center for Healthy Aging is bringing together scholars and practice partners to answer important research questions about healthy aging. Interdisciplinary models such as this provide an exciting arena for student participation.
Our programs are built upon and through the liberal arts, offered in the context of a school-church relationship that embraces ecumenism, free inquiry, and respect for individuals and their beliefs. We are convinced that a broad education contributes to success in practice, education, and research.
I am pleased to introduce you to the Harris College and invite you to get to know us better. I urge you to review our website, visit the beautiful TCU campus, and talk with faculty and students. We are learning to make a difference!
